A network diagram shows how different machines are connected over a network and how data is passed through all the devices. Network diagrams and maps are extremely helpful in understanding how a failover scenario is supposed to work and how the network components should connect. In a typical network diagram, entities are displayed as nodes, and relationships are displayed as links (usually lines) connecting the nodes. As shown in the below Network Diagram, the DNS provides a mapping between human-readable names, like www.edrawsoft.com, and their associated addresses, like 205.251.242.103. It should be noted here that DNS can be best compared to a phone book where you look up the phone numbers listed by easier-to-remember names.
