The primary home network consists of a single wireless access point (WAP) part of the wireless router described below, building a home network. As shown in the below network diagram, the basic configuration can be extended to provide both wired and wireless access using various methods. It should be noted here that most Home routers have several Ethernet ports and often also Wi-Fi. They also generally have an (ADSL, VDSL, or Cable) modem built-in, but one may need an external one. To extend the Wi-Fi coverage to area 2, one will need a second WAP (Wireless Access Point), and this second access point will need to connect to the WAP in Area 1.
