A SIPOC diagram is a powerful commercial tool used to document all the crucial business processes from start to end before implementation. They are also known as process maps, as the focus is generally on outlining the processes and not providing detailed information about the same.
Commercial organizations commonly use such SIPOC (Suppliers, Inputs, Process, Outputs, Customers) diagrams for capturing high-level components of a process while still in the strategizing stage of implementation and process improvement. The diagram is also a crucial component of lean manufacturing, business process manufacturing, and Six Sigma management disciplines.
Apart from designing new processes and process improvement, the SIPOC diagram can also be used for providing an overview of the process to unfamiliar people or re-introducing the process.
