Spray drying process involves pumping the powder/solvent slurry through a nozzle to aerate and create a spray of the slurry in a counter or co-current flow of hot gases, such that droplets of the slurry are dried in flight before falling to the bottom of the vessel. There are three fundamental steps involved in spray drying -- Atomization of a liquid feed into fine droplets -- Mixing these spray droplets with a heated gas stream, allowing the liquid to evaporate and leave dried solids -- Dried powder is separated from the gas stream and collected. It should be noted here that spray drying is a process of intensive and continuous, and gradual drying energy. The spray drying technique involves utilizing a liquid product in hot gas current to obtain an instantaneous powder.
