The main idea is the central or most important paragraph or passage. It states the purpose and sets the direction of the paragraph or passage. The Main Idea diagram shows that the teachers will teach the talk about appropriate manners for the occasion. The sub-ideas can be, "It is almost certain. He must have fallen asleep." The second sub-idea can be, "He must not have heard the doorbell." The third could be, "He might have gone out." The main idea may be stated in the first sentence of a diagram and then be repeated or restated at the end of the graphics.
