Performing a cultural genogram is an important aspect of being a competent helping professional. Effectiveness is dependent on emotional and psychological boundaries. Doing a cultural genogram brings subconscious processes to the surface, and as a result, professionals are far less inclined to impose their will on others, particularly those who may be their customers and are vulnerable.
