A genogram depicts a family's history over time, whereas a spiritual ecomap depicts a family's current relationships to critical ecological systems in space. The spiritual ecomap is based on an anthropological framework developed in the spiritual formation tradition and can be used with families from various spiritual traditions. Unlike genograms, ecomaps are a valuable tool for determining whom a child or young person considers important, whom they have close relationships with, and how they perceive the adults around them. A spiritual ecomap is a spiritual assessment tool that depicts a family system's current relationships with critical spiritual elements.
