A block diagram is a type of high-level flowchart used in engineering. It is used to create new systems, as well as to describe and improve existing ones. Its organization provides a high-level overview of major system components, key process participants, and critical working relationships. A block diagram provides a high-level view of a system that allows you to identify points of interest or trouble spots quickly. Due to its high-level perspective it may not offer the level of detail required for more comprehensive planning or implementation. A block diagram will not focus on every wire and switch in detail; a circuit diagram will.
