A business process model and notation diagram, aka BPMN diagram, is used to create simple flowcharts of business processes that can be shared across organizations and industries. Flow objects, connecting objects, swimlanes, and artifacts are the four major groups of BPMN diagram symbols. Swimlanes are used in a BPMN diagram to organize aspects of a process. Swimlanes visually divide objects into lanes, with each stage of the function assigned to its route. These elements can be arranged vertically or horizontally.
