Web mapping is the process of viewing, analyzing, and sharing a visual representation of geospatial data in map form via the internet. Web mapping allows users to access geospatial mapping via a web browser interface. Web mapping is also known as web GIS (Geographic Information System). Accessing mapping flexibly while providing an intuitive way to interact with location data is a key aspect of its appeal. This enables mapping software to be used by users other than GIS professionals. Web mapping and data processing to create visualization are increasingly used to allow organizations to gain geospatial insights across the enterprise.
