A compare and contrast diagram is a diagram that compares and contrasts two (or more) ideas. Overlapping circles represent how ideas are similar (the inner circle) and different (the outer circle) (the outer circles). It is used following reading a text(s) in which two (or more) ideas are compared and contrasted. This strategy assists students in distinguishing similarities and differences between pictures. First, draw two large circles when using a Compare and Contrast diagram to write a compare and contrast essay. These two circles should be overlapping. Give each process a title that represents the idea you're comparing. Write everything that the two concepts, people, or objects have in common in the overlapping area.
