The only difference between a Wireless Metropolitan Area Network and a Wireless Metropolitan Area Network (WMAN) is that the connectivity is wireless. It serves a range of more than 100 meters and spans multiple locations within a geographic area. It is a type of wireless networking with a coverage area the size of a city. In general, it spans or covers an area that is larger than that of a Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) but smaller than that of a Wireless Wide Area Network (WWAN) (WWAN). Wireless Metropolitan Area Network connections can be either point-to-point or point-to-multipoint. It is a newer networking technology that complements some wired technologies such as Gigabit Ethernet, Resilient Packet Ring (RPR), SONET over IP, etc.
