This Metropolitan Area Network PPT combines local networks within a city and is based on high data rate compounds implemented based on fiber and other digital data transmission channels. With the growing number of network communities, wireless local area networks based on the 802.11b standard are being combined into a wireless metropolitan area network comprised of low-cost antenna systems and consumer-grade wireless equipment based on the 802.11a and 802.11b standards. A Metropolitan Area Network PPT is larger than a LAN but smaller than a wide area network (WAN). MANs are not required to be in urban areas; the term "metropolitan" refers to the size of the network rather than the demographics of the area served.
