The Zachman Framework is a method of categorizing an organization's architecture. It is a proactive business tool for modeling an organization's existing functions, elements, and processes and managing business change. The framework is based on Zachman's knowledge of how complex products such as airplanes and buildings drive change. Many software methodologies are organized around the phases of the system development life cycle and the steps required to develop systems within each stage. This is stated as Strategy, Analysis, Design, Construction, Transition, and Testing. John Zachman published a different approach to system development elements in 1987.
