Forwards are outfield positions in an association football team that play the furthest up the pitch and are thus most responsible for scoring and assisting goals. The role of the forward, like that of any attacking player, is heavily reliant on the ability to create space for attack. To put it simply, forwards are the players on the football field who are closest to the opposing goal. They are in charge of scoring goals for their team. Forwards are expected to score more goals than their teammates in other positions because they are closest to the opponents goal.
