This circular decisionmaking framework can assist decisionmakers such as policymakers, investors, and entrepreneurs in navigating tradeoffs and making decisions considering the quality of innovation circularity and its potential for diffusion. We synthesized insights from existing frameworks and conceptually integrated them with our understanding of transition theory and the circular economy to develop, test, and refine our Circular DecisionMaking Tree. We then validated the framework's internal logic and applicability in a series of usability workshops across four application contexts.
